SUMMARY:The Flywheels\, Bound for Glory
DESCRIPTION:From http://boundforglory.org/ : \n  \nThe Flywheels are an old timey band. Except when they’re not. The Flywheels are a traditional bluegrass band. Except when they’re not. Cap Cooke (banjo and vocals) Liz Pickard (guitar and vocals)\, Sam Schmidt (fiddle and vocals)\, Jason Zorn (bass) make up The Flywheels. \nCap Cooke got his first banjo from his parents for his 13th birthday and found a liking for old-style bluegrass and old-time music. He has played with Barham Lashley’s Hilltoppers\, Aaron Lipp’s Mount Pleasant Stringband\, Uncle Joe and the Rosebud Ramblers\, and other bands. \nCap met Sam Schmidt\, when he first filled in with the Hilltoppers. They learned a lot playing together in the Hilltoppers\, and had an idea to start their own band once that band disbanded. Cap met Liz Pickard at the Grassroots Festival\, and was soon blown away hearing her old-school guitar playing and singing. They became friends\, and Cap soon invited her to join their new band. \nFor the better part of a year\, the three rehearsed numerous times and played a few gigs. They were also on the lookout for a bass player. Cap knew Jason Zorn played the bass as well as old-time fiddle\, and after Jason played with them a on a couple dates became the fourth member of the band. \nTheir first digital album\, The Back Porch Recordings\, is available on their website.

SUMMARY:ILR Book Drive and Giveaway
DESCRIPTION:The cost of books for ILR core courses have become very expensive. \nMany intro courses require more than five books\, some over 10 books that are only used once and are discarded by students or left at home. The ILR book trade and book drive takes donated books from students then recycles them among other students in an attempt to mitigate the costs and to encourage students to reuse books. \nMost likely\, students will not be able to find all the books they need for their intro courses at the book trade\, but if we can offset a couple of costs for students then we have achieved the goal of this event. \nSo stop by and see if we have any books you need for class.

SUMMARY:Nate Marshall and Friends\, Bound For Glory
DESCRIPTION:From boundforglory.org/schedule \nNate is a grand songwriter\, making the most out of the 21st century. His songs are very current…and then he’ll switch to a traditional song\, when you least expect it. Hard to say who else is coming along. We may all find out at the same time. \n\nNate Marshall carries on the folk music tradition of song and storytelling with a modern twist of humor and musicianship steeped in a number of genres including swing\, blues\, Americana and jazz. \nIn addition to solo performance\, Nate is also a guitar instructor\, staple of the childrens’ music scene in central New York as well as an accomplished juggler\, known as “Nate the Great”. He has toured extensively throughout the U.S. in a variety of venues from theaters to cafes and farmer’s markets to street corners. In 2007\, he released “Fame by Frame” with his wife Kate of the folk duo Nate & Kate\, and\, in 2010\, released his solo album “Throwaways Stowaways and Drifters”. \nNate is currently performing shows in the central New York area in addition to regular tours throughout New England and the Northeast.

SUMMARY:Radiant Voices: Citizenship
DESCRIPTION:Who is (un)natural. (in)visible. (un)documented? \nWho has the power to dream\, to detain? \nWho constructs & deconstructs systems into shards? Sails & derails the heavy ships of microaggressions? \nWho can partake in allyship? When is the hull of nominal citizenship insufficient? What is citizenship? Who–and who is not–a citizen? \nAn ode to Citizen by Claudia Rankine (who will be reading at Cornell earlier on the same day!)\, our third iteration of Radiant Voices navigates the river-rugged terrain\, the field-fraught narratives of this uncertainty.
